PhD Program
The purpose of the PhD degree and the PhD thesis is to conduct independent, original and structured scientific research that promotes the science of Mathematics.
The PhD thesis should demonstrate integrity and validity so that parts of it can be published in reputable international peer-reviewed journals. It should be original in the sense that it contributes to the cognitive field of research. A thesis that does not meet the condition of originality, as defined above, is rejected.
PhD students have faculty members or researchers appointed by the Department General Assembly as Supervisors. Their area of specialization and faculty rank should grant them, in accordance with applicable law, the responsibility to undertake PhD students as long as the supervision is in research areas related to the Department.
The Assembly of the Department entrusts the proposed Supervisor with the supervision of the PhD student and appoints a three-member Advisory Committee, in accordance with applicable law, with the power to frame and support the drafting and writing of the thesis.
